In a rare joint statement, the entire community of high-energy physics responds to blatant sexism by noted theorist

Professor Alessandro Strumia is a misogynist, and a rote one at that. In a talk at CERN last week that was supposed to be about his recent paper in bibliometrics, Professor Strumia veered wildly off course to describe his belief in tired confabulations about anti-male bias in academia. In response, the professor has been suspended from all activities at CERN and may receive a disciplinary review from his home institution at the University of Pisa. But the most exciting response has come from the physics community itself. As of this writing, over 1600 signatories within the field have shown their report for a joint statement entitled Particles for Justice, which openly denounces Strumia’s outdated views and expresses disappointment in the ongoing sexism in the scientific community, as well as thoroughly debunking the data Strumia used to draw his dubious conclusion. The statement represents an unprecedented collaboration among researchers who’ve had enough of this reactionary pseudo-science, and may mark the dawn of an age in which science is ready to acknowledge its own deep roots within the cultures of scientists - for better or for worse.
